This Is Just To Say (poem)

This Is Just To Say
by William Carlos Williams

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold

I found this poem last year when we had to research a poet and pick
a poem of theirs that we enjoyed. This poem caught my eye because it
didn't really have a purpose other that just to say it.

  1. For this poem, in terms of literary elements, I found some imagery in the form of sensories and description. The speaker, or narator, could possibly be the author with the owner of the plumbs being the target of the poem. Also, there seems to be no real reason or central point to this poem, other than just to say it.
